The issue of animal abuse has always been monitored by the Police and Carabinieri because animals do not deserve to suffer unjustly and be involved in illegal activities where they are not protected but rather exploited in precarious living conditions that naturally affects their actual health.
Dog fighting, a controversial sport
Illegal dog fighting is one of the activities that often occurs in contexts where illegality prevails because large sums are bet on the performance of the animals, who are exploited for the sole purpose of winning.
In fact, behind these fights there is no concern for the health of the animals and there is only the goal of earning as much money as possible from their fights.
Past analyses have shown that the dogs and other animals employed in clandestine fights are in extremely fragile living and health conditions , and that this type of commitment ultimately proves detrimental to the animal's well-being.
Police intervention seizes 13 Pitbulls
The Gela Police, together with the Carabinieri of the Cites anti-poaching unit in Rome and the Agrigento anti-crime centre, have seized 13 animals, Pitbull breed dogs , used for illegal dog fighting.
These were fighting in an illegal betting circuit , and the dogs were found in 4 of the 6 homes covered by the decree.
In addition to the animals, as reported by Il Sole 24 Ore , equipment used to strengthen the animals was seized, such as treadmills , leashes with snap hooks and weights that strengthened the animals' jaws .
Among the seized dogs were four puppies and a female, who was later found to be pregnant . The operation stemmed from an investigation launched following a police stop at a person's home, where a Pitbull was found showing clear signs of fighting with other dogs.
