14-year-old dies, Tritium and Martinengo grieve: "Our hearts go out to the family."
The news has thrown the communities of Martinengo, where the family had recently moved after living in Urgnano and Comun Nuovo, and the latter, where Rayan was born and raised, into despair. A student in Bergamo, the boy had a dream linked to football : after playing for Comun Nuovo and Uso Zanica, he had joined the youth teams of Tritium in Trezzo sull'Adda, in the Milan area.
As reported by Prima Bergamo , Giuseppe Pardeo, the club's sporting director , recalled the incident. He expressed his sympathy to the family and explained that the club doesn't have the means to take the young players home. When it emerged that Rayan lived in Martinengo, he was offered the option of playing for a closer team, such as Forza e Costanza, but the final decision was left up to him. " We tell everyone: it's good to play close to home; you can't afford to have to travel an hour every time, unless you're a professional ," Pardeo said. The director added that he didn't know which training session the boy had attended that evening, specifying that training typically ended between 8 and 8:30 PM and that some of his teammates often drove him home.
" We join the family in their grief, and we pray for him ," he concluded. The mayor of Martinengo, Pasquale Busetti, also expressed his condolences to the family and refocused attention on the safety of the road where the accident occurred. " A tragedy ," he commented, reiterating " the extreme danger of the current roadway, further aggravated by the narrowness of the carriageway ."
