Casalesi in Veneto: 24 final convictions: arrests begin

Milan, October 8 (askanews) – Arrests have been made for 24 people convicted in the investigation into the Casalesi clan's infiltration in Veneto. Police, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) carried out the arrests in seven provinces, from Venice to Caserta. The convictions, with sentences ranging from three to thirty years, concern various charges of mafia association, usury, extortion, money laundering, and other crimes aggravated by mafia methods. The investigation uncovered the presence of an organization linked to the Casalesi, rooted primarily in eastern Veneto and the Eraclea area.

According to investigators, the group had managed to infiltrate the local business community and even the political and administrative dynamics of the region. The Supreme Court of Cassation upheld the convictions of 24 defendants. It ordered three others to be retried before the Venice Court of Appeal.
