Adnkronos (Adnkronos) – A 70-year-old man, originally from Bari and resident in Ostuni, in the province of Brindisi, died this afternoon in Ostuni during a sudden thunderstorm when lightning struck where he was fishing with a friend. The incident is being reconstructed by the local police station. The friend was unharmed but remained in shock.
The lightning struck right where the two men were standing, and the 70-year-old died instantly. Rescue efforts, alerted by his friend, were unsuccessful. The cause of death may have been electrocution, but investigations are underway to determine whether a fall onto the rocks after the lightning struck right where the victim was standing could have been fatal.
