A meeting in Rome to review biomethane in agriculture.

Rome, October 17 (askanews) – Biomethane must be made concretely accessible to farms to promote sustainability and a truly circular economy. The multifunctionality of agriculture is central to this process: it allows for the integration of quality food production, renewable energy, and land conservation, combining innovation and the valorization of traditional knowledge. Farmers must be the protagonists of this transformation: their direct involvement is essential to develop safe solutions that meet the concrete needs of those who work in the fields.

Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, President of the UniVerde Foundation, presents the main topics of the conference "Biomethane. Innovation, sustainability, and safety of new field refueling systems"—promoted by the UniVerde Foundation, Coldiretti, CIB (Italian Biogas Consortium), and EBA (European Biogas Association), with the patronage of CNR and CREA, the participation of ENEA, and the media partnership of Rai Italia—which will take place on Tuesday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m. in Rome, at the Palazzo Rospigliosi Conference Center (Via XXIV Maggio 43) and streamed live on Radio Radicale.

The initiative aims to foster the development of an increasingly multifunctional and sustainable agriculture, capable of integrating food production, renewable energy production, and local services. At the heart of the discussion are innovations that can enable biomethane producers to recycle the fuel for on-site refueling of agricultural vehicles, benefiting both neighboring farms and the environment.

The discussion between institutions, the scientific community, the primary sector, and businesses, with the participation of representatives of the main parliamentary parties, aims to identify shared solutions and promote a clear framework of rules and authorization procedures capable of supporting innovation and development of the supply chain while respecting operator safety and environmental protection. The ability to safely deliver supplies directly to the field can reduce the need to move vehicles away from work areas and travel long distances to reach distribution points. Fewer trips and downtime can translate into increased productivity, lower operating costs, and reduced fuel consumption and emissions related to transport, contributing to improving the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural operations. Initiative partners: Gruppo Metano Toscana and Biogas Merse. Media partners: Askanews, Italpress, TeleAmbiente, and Opera2030.
