A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday, October 14, on the A1 Direttissima motorway, where a truck overturned inside the Sparvo tunnel , killing the driver. The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m., at kilometer 16, between Badia and the junction with the A1 Panoramica motorway, heading towards Bologna.
As reported by Bologna Today , the driver, a 52-year-old Romanian national , lost his life in the accident. Upon impact, the heavy vehicle lost its load of wood and chipboard, which ended up on the roadway, requiring the temporary closure of the motorway to allow for rescue operations and road safety.
The A1 motorway reopened after hours of closure: five kilometres of traffic jams and alternative routes.
Emergency medical and mechanical personnel , the fire department, the traffic police, and Autostrade per l'Italia personnel responded to the scene . Traffic on the Direttissima, heading north, was closed between Badia and the junction with the A1 Milan-Naples motorway, resulting in delays for motorists heading towards Bologna. The stretch of motorway reopened around 5:00 PM , but when it reopened, there was still approximately five kilometers of traffic jam. To limit disruption, Autostrade recommended using the A1 Panoramica motorway or exiting at Barberino, taking the SS65 della Futa motorway, and re-entering at Sasso Marconi. For longer journeys to Bologna and Milan, alternatives were also indicated, using the A11 and A15 motorways.
