Agcom, Capitanio: Chatbots and minors? AI is dangerous if uncontrolled.

Rome, November 5 (askanews) – "This is our priority. Digital literacy, which we are advancing in collaboration with the Ministry of Education with protocols to introduce digital literacy in schools, is a fundamental protection. It is obvious that AI, if uncontrolled—I'm thinking of chatbots for minors—can certainly pose a danger." This was stated by AGCOM Commissioner Massimiliano Capitanio on the sidelines of the second edition of the Urania Policy & Business Forum, an annual event promoted by Urania News, the television channel for institutions and businesses, at Villa Wolkonsky in Rome. "When someone relies on AI without controlling the tools, they risk turning from an informed citizen into a passive consumer. But often, being a passive consumer leads you to engage in activities, even in democratic voting and participation in demonstrations, as we saw in Milan, that become instinctive and non-rational.

The authorities intervene in the use of AI when it poses a systemic risk, puts minors at risk, violates copyright—a topic of interest to the world of journalism—and when practices are unfair or dangerous for society and the user.
