Chiara Nava Carmelo Cinturrino returns to the magistrates to give his version of events regarding the death of Abderrahim Mansouri , the Moroccan drug dealer killed by a gunshot last January. The former assistant police chief, currently in prison, was questioned this morning by public prosecutor Giovanni Tarzia. He was joined by lawyers Marco Bianucci and Davide Giugno.
The core of the defense strategy concerns the challenge of premeditation . Cinturrino intends to argue that there was no planning for the murder and that he had no intention of killing Mansouri. His lawyers refer to it as " a tragic accident " and have reiterated their client's innocence.
The premeditation contested by the Prosecutor's Office
The questioning comes after the investigation was concluded over the summer. Among the charges brought by the Prosecutor's Office against Cinturrino is the aggravating circumstance of premeditation , a particularly relevant element in the prosecution's case and one that, if convicted of murder with this aggravating circumstance, could significantly impact the sentence, up to life imprisonment.
For the defense, however, there would not have been an action prepared in advance.
“ A moment of clarification is essential following the outcome of the investigation ,” Bianucci and Giugno explained before the interrogation.
The lawyers emphasized that they have always maintained the former assistant police chief's "innocence" and reiterated their reconstruction that Mansouri's death was the result of a fatality . " The documents confirm this. We hope for a fair hearing ," the defense added.
Telephone traffic and Cinturrino's version
Among the elements Cinturrino is expected to provide clarification on is telephone traffic . According to the defense, analyzing this data could help support the thesis of the lack of planning and thus challenge the aggravating circumstance of premeditation.
The former policeman would also be willing to answer the prosecutor's questions even if the interrogation were to touch on the other investigation in which he is involved, the one relating to the alleged " squad " of the Mecenate police station.
The defense lawyers finally discussed their client's conditions during his detention. According to their lawyers, his " real suffering " is not related to his time in prison, but to Mansouri's death and the burden, they explain, " of a human life that is no longer with us ."
