Tires, Cobat Tyre: Expected new legislation and End of Waste

Rimini, November 4 (askanews) – "We are waiting for the ministry to approve the new directive and therefore the entire new draft for the End of Waste (EWW) for end-of-life tires." Francesco Massaro, general manager of Cobat Tyre, said this on the sidelines of Ecomondo at the Rimini Fair, explaining that a discussion is underway among the industry consortia "on what the new regulation could be." "The end-of-life tire industry is relatively young, only 15 years old, and we have managed to significantly improve it: we are already starting to eliminate the illegal dumping that existed until recently," Massaro emphasized.

"Thanks to the eco-contribution they pay, citizens can easily drop off their used tires at their auto repair shop or tire dealer, who can then hand them over to the consortium for proper recycling." On the research front, "we at Cobat Tyre are currently following pyrolysis very closely," added the director.

“We're talking about a decomposition that could even lead to the reuse of the powder obtained from pyrolysis within the compounds of new tires, thus reviving an old tire as a new one.”
