Milan, October 30 (askanews) – A demonstration called by the USB union has begun in Milan, coinciding with the 24-hour general strike of public and private sector workers. Other independent unions have also called a strike against rearmament policies, high living costs, and low wages. "Let's kick out the government of war, high living costs, and repression" and "Workers and students united, against the school system of precariousness, war, and racism" are among the signs displayed.
Demonstrations are planned in major cities. "Block the city up to the ring roads" is the goal of the protest, proclaimed by the union, but "peacefully," USB representatives said. In Milan, the main march started from Piazza Duca d'Aosta and is expected to head toward the eastern suburbs.
