A bus ride turned into an unforgettable moment in Bologna, where a woman gave birth to her baby aboard bus line 39. Thanks to the prompt intervention of the driver, Niurka Roman, and the cooperation of the passengers, the birth ended in the best possible way: both mother and newborn are well.
The driver herself, a Tper employee for three years, recounted those moments. She found herself facing a completely unexpected situation, managing to remain calm and help the woman until help arrived.
The birth on board the bus headed to Maggiore Hospital
It all started when a passenger alerted Niurka Roman that a woman on board was feeling unwell and was pregnant.
“ Suddenly a user told me that a lady was feeling unwell and was pregnant ,” the driver said.
Sensing that contractions might have begun , Roman asked the passenger to help her breathe. The woman, who didn't speak Italian well, communicated primarily through gestures.
At that point the driver decided to stop the vehicle at the Maggiore hospital stop.
A providential choice: it was right there, in fact, that the child came into the world.
The help of passengers and the arrival of rescue
After the birth, Roman wrapped the newborn in a sarong and the hospital emergency services were immediately called , arriving within moments. Initial checks confirmed that both mother and baby were fine.
The driver emotionally recalled the participation of the passengers , who mobilized to help the woman in such a delicate moment.
“ It was a very beautiful and emotional moment because it was a beautiful embrace of humanity to support the woman ,” Roman said, explaining that what happened will forever remain among his most fond memories.
A story with a happy ending, made possible by the prompt action of a driver and the spontaneous solidarity of those on board.
