Rio de Janeiro, October 21 (askanews) – A massive demonstration in Rio de Janeiro by supporters of Flavio Bolsonaro, the far-right candidate who will face former left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in a runoff election on Sunday. Bolsonaro, who won 47% of the vote in the first round to Lula's 45%, is considered the clear favorite in the second round.
On Tuesday, Lula intensified his offensive against Bolsonaro, deciding to ask the electoral justice to annul his rival's candidacy due to alleged interference by Meta in favor of the conservative senator. A move that Bolsonaro supporters who marched in Rio said was merely evidence of Lula's "desperation."
"The fact is, we're certain we have the power, we have the strength," says one protester. "I'm very confident we'll win this second round. So they're desperate, you know? They'll try everything to stop us, but we won't stop. We'll win. We'll win. The only thing that would stop us from winning this year would be fraud."
