(Adnkronos) – 'Lasting Health Starts Now': lasting health is built on today's choices. With this message, on the occasion of the Italian Obesity Society (SIO) congress, Novo is bringing prevention to the heart of Palermo with a campaign of free cardiometabolic screenings open to the public. The initiative, according to a press release, will take place in Piazza Politeama from October 15 to 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the aim of raising awareness of cardiometabolic risk factors and the importance of prevention.

The event, it states, "is particularly important in Sicily, where the prevalence of obesity and overweight among the adult population exceeds the national average. According to ISTAT 2026 data, 13% of adults live with obesity, equivalent to over half a million residents, compared to 11,6% nationwide. Furthermore, 38,9% of the adult population is overweight, compared to the Italian average of 34,8%.

Even among younger people, the data highlight a situation that warrants attention. According to the HBSC Surveillance Unit of the Italian National Institute of Health, the statement details, "21% of adolescents in Sicily are overweight, compared to 18,2% nationally, while 5,7% are obese, compared to 4,4% nationally. Considering the 3-17 age group, ISTAT data indicate that 34,6% of children and adolescents in Sicily are overweight, compared to 26% nationally."

From October 15th to 17th, citizens and visitors will have free access to the area set up by Novo in Piazza Politeama every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Here, cardiometabolic screenings will be available to assess various indicators, including general fitness, psychophysical well-being, blood pressure, and parameters associated with tissue aging. More than a simple measurement, the screening aims to offer people a valuable opportunity to take time to focus on their health, learn more about it, and gain greater awareness of their well-being and potential risk factors. This experience also provides initial guidance on prevention and in-depth analysis. The experience brought by Novo to Piazza Politeama aims to make prevention simpler and more accessible, moving it beyond the conference spaces and into the heart of the city, closer to the people.

With this initiative, the statement concludes, "Novo gives substance to the message 'Lasting health starts now': lasting health is built starting with today's actions. Information, prevention, and awareness of risk factors are essential tools for early intervention and promoting an approach to health that supports people over time. Attending the SIO conference thus becomes an opportunity to combine scientific discussion with a concrete initiative aimed at the public."
