Diesel prices at the pump have reached another record high, following the excise duty increase effective today, Friday, September 18, introduced by the government with the decree that reduced the car tax. With the new excise duty, up four cents per liter (4,8 including VAT), the national average self-service price is nearly €2,3/liter.

As of 9:00 a.m., not all distribution operators have yet updated their prices with the new rates, so the full effect of the reduction in the "discount" will be seen in the coming days. Oil and refined product prices are falling on the Mediterranean market. 

This morning the average price of self-service fuel along the national road network is €2,149/l for petrol (up 6 thousandths compared to yesterday), €2,294/l for diesel (up 28), €0,748/l for LPG (unchanged) and €1,862/kg for methane (up 4).

On the motorway network, the average self-service price is €2,241/l for petrol (+5), €2,375/l for diesel (+29), €0,885/l for LPG (unchanged) and €1,794/kg for methane (+9). 

According to Staffetta Quotidiana, Eni has increased its recommended diesel prices by seven cents per liter. For IP, we've seen a two-cent increase per liter on gasoline and diesel.

For Tamoil +5 cents on diesel. 

The Ministry of Business and Made in Italy announces that, based on the latest data collected by the MIMIT Fuel Price Observatory, as of today – Friday, September 18, 2026 – the average self-service fuel price along the national road network is €2,149/l for gasoline and €2,294/l for diesel. On the motorway network, however, the average self-service price is €2,241/l for gasoline and €2,375/l for diesel.
