Garlasco: Prosecutor's Office closes new investigation into Sempio
The murder of Chiara Poggi , killed in Garlasco in 2007 , is back in the spotlight following the second closure of the investigation into Andrea Sempio . The new notice of conclusion of the investigation follows further investigations ordered by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office, including consultations on the famous shoe print and DNA.
Sempio's charge remains that of murder aggravated by cruelty and hatred toward the victim . The defense will now be able to examine the documents and file any briefs, while prosecutors will subsequently decide whether to request a committal for trial. The defense, speaking to Quarta Repubblica , emphasized: " There are no new elements " of evidence, while specifying that further elements could emerge from an examination of the documentation.
Among the aspects under scrutiny again is the reconstruction of the incident involving the bicycle. According to the Corriere della Sera , the prosecution's reconstruction is based on the idea that Chiara opened the door for a person she knew, who arrived independently on a bicycle. The Supreme Court of Cassation, however, had deemed the position of Alberto Stasi , the only person definitively convicted of the murder, compatible with the scene. The new investigations, however, have refocused attention on several circumstances considered problematic by investigators, starting with the characteristics of the black bicycle and the absence of witnesses who saw the killer depart on it.
Garlasco, Sallusti shines the spotlight on Garofano: "It's a rather disturbing coincidence."
The new investigations have refocused attention on the work carried out in 2007 by the Parma RIS , then led by General Luciano Garofano . The topic was addressed by Alessandro Sallusti , director of Libero and guest of Quarta Repubblica , who highlighted Garofano's subsequent professional activity as a consultant for Sempio's defense, a position he later resigned from in 2025. Sallusti spoke of a circumstance that, in his opinion, deserves particular attention: " The general who commanded the Parma RIS, who then leaves the scene in the sense that he retires, goes on leave, but continues his activity in a private capacity and acts as an expert for Sempio's defense . " The journalist then added: " It's a coincidence, but it's a rather disturbing coincidence . " This is an assessment expressed by Sallusti during the broadcast and not a judicial investigation into Garofano's actions.
Meanwhile, Alberto Stasi 's position remains distinct . The Pavia Prosecutor's Office has highlighted elements that could impact the reconstruction of the trial, but has clarified that a review of the final conviction has not yet been requested . Among the elements cited by the Supreme Court of Cassation are Stasi's account of the discovery of the body, the absence of traces of blood on his shoes or in the car, and the fingerprints found on the soap dispenser. The Supreme Court had defined his account of the discovery as " incongruous, illogical, and false , " while also attaching importance to the handling of the black bicycle and the fingerprints on the dispenser. Furthermore, with regard to the new investigations, the Prosecutor's Office's consultants have filed a note relating to a size 42 Frau shoe , considered compatible with the size of Sempio's foot and with the dotted sole found in the villa in Garlasco.
