(Adnkronos) – Golf carts continue to be targeted by Rome's Carabinieri, with new raids today in the capital: this time, in addition to officers from Rome's Mobile Radio Unit, colleagues from the Labor Inspectorate (Nil) were also deployed at checkpoints. Today's checks follow Adnkronos' investigation into the invasion of golf carts on the streets, particularly in the city center, used as tourist vehicles. These checks also follow other checks and patrols by Carabinieri officers in recent days. The Carabinieri's Nil unit is aiming to verify the legality of the companies owning the vehicles and the employment relationships with their drivers and operators.

This morning, checkpoints were set up between Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza del Popolo. After carrying out street checks, Nil officers will conduct a more in-depth analysis of the collected documentation in the coming days.

In recent days, between the Pantheon, Circus Maximus, Piazza di Spagna, and Trinità dei Monti, the Carabinieri checked 131 golf carts, seizing 10 of them, and imposing a total of 38 euros in fines, revoking 13 licenses, and deducting 106 points.

Eugenio Patanè, Rome's Mobility Councilor, confirmed to Adnkronos that "out of approximately 400 golf carts in circulation, we have only authorized 41," urging the Lazio Region to legislate on the issue. In this regard, Fabrizio Ghera, Lazio's Mobility Councilor, announced yesterday that "within a few weeks" they will be able to "share an appropriate text" on the basis of which the Capitoline Hill will then be able to approve a specific regulation.
