IP also caps fuel prices in Italy, following Eni. Socar, the Azerbaijani energy company that controls Italiana Petroli (IP), has decided to introduce a cap on the price of gasoline and diesel on its network. The measure will be implemented gradually, following the path already taken by Eni.
The measure will take effect tomorrow and "will be implemented progressively, starting with the IP-branded network," a statement explains, "guaranteeing significant support to partners and network operators with whom the company has built a relationship of full trust, transparency, and collaboration over the years, which distinguishes it within the national energy landscape."
The decision comes at a time of heightened concern over fuel costs and following calls for major companies to help contain the impact of prices on families and businesses.
According to Adnkronos, the fuel discount could reach approximately 8.500 points of sale in Italy.
In addition to the approximately 4.000 Eni/Enilive distributors, there would also be approximately 4.500 IP points of sale.
The overall network involved would thus reach approximately 39% of the approximately 22 distributors present in Italy.
Other major operators in the sector remain under observation. According to sources consulted by Adnkronos, these include Esso, which may also consider joining the price containment mechanism.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani claimed responsibility for the initiative in a message on X, recalling that in recent days he had urged the president of SOCAR, Rovshan Najaf, to move in the same direction.
"Following Eni, IP will also implement fuel price caps throughout Italy. Just at the beginning of September, I asked Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, the Azerbaijani energy company that controls Italiana Petroli (IP), to move in this direction. No top-down impositions, no new taxes for businesses, but a voluntary contribution to help Italian citizens.
