Emmanuel Macron wanted to speak to Donald Trump on the phone. The US president, however, handed the phone to Kid Rock. It was the singer, born Robert James Ritchie, who recounted the incident that involved him—against his will—with the American and French presidents. Kid Rock, a Trump supporter and close to the president even on official occasions, told everything to Bill Maher, the journalist who hosts the show Real Time with Bill Maher.
“Bob, you’ve gotten to know Trump personally over the years. What’s one thing about him that would surprise people? Do you want to tell the Macron story?” Maher asks the singer. Kid Rock deflects, and Maher insists: “The Macron and the golf cart story.” “Oh yeah, that was funny. Yeah, we were playing golf…
I don't like to tell stories like this, but this is just a funny story. Trump gets phone calls all the time. He keeps working while you're playing golf, he never stops. I think we can all agree on that. He works all the time, he sleeps 4-5 hours a night,” the singer continues. “We're out there” on the fairway.
“Call Macron and start talking.
"We're on the golf cart, and I'm standing next to it. And Trump goes, 'Hey, I'm here with the great Kid Rock,' as if Macron knew who I was," the singer recounts. "And Trump says, 'Bob, say hello.' So he hands me the phone. I say, 'Hello, Mr. President.' And I add, 'I'm from the Paris of the Midwest, Detroit,'" Kid Rock continues. "And Trump leaves!" adds the singer, who finds himself alone entertaining the president of France. "What did I say? 'How are you?'"
