We chose L'Aquila to host the European Week for Safety and Health at Work for its enormous, yet painful, symbolic value. It is, in fact, a city that has suffered and been wounded precisely because of the lack of prevention in the earthquake sector. We want to connect the theme of culture in general with the culture of prevention and that of workplace safety.
L'Aquila is also an extraordinary symbol of rebirth and of how construction sites, in a strategic sector like construction, can be safely conducted. We are here to reaffirm these values, which must be shared with institutions, organizations, unions, employers, and businesses. It is important that the entire community recognizes the social value that prevention and safety deserve.
This was stated by Marcello Fiori, Director General of INAIL, during the European Week for Health and Safety at Work, taking place on October 20, 21, and 26 in L'Aquila and promoted by INAIL, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, and the Municipality of L'Aquila, Italian Capital of Culture 2026. Three days of meetings, discussions, and training dedicated to spreading a culture of prevention, including regulatory updates, technological innovation, school safety, and road accident prevention.
