Paris, October 21 (askanews) – After days of rioting and chaos that ravaged several cities in France following the escalation of student protests over school conditions, painstaking cleanup and damage repairs are underway in many cities, including the capital. Around 1000 sanitation workers have been mobilized in Paris, and many residents have spontaneously joined them, according to the Paris city hall. Pictures show the cleaning of Léopold Morice's Monument to the Republic in Place de la République, defaced with protesters' graffiti.
Inaugurated in 1883, it represents a bronze allegory of the Republic on a stone pedestal where Liberty, Equality and Brotherhood, the three revolutionary ideals, are represented as three women.
