(Adnkronos) – Football is in mourning: Evaristo Beccalossi died today, Wednesday, May 6th. An Inter legend, he was 69 years old and would have turned 70 in a few days, on May 12th. A superb midfielder throughout his playing career, a classic number 10, he won a Scudetto in 1979-80 and two Coppa Italia titles (1981-82) with the Nerazzurri. He died at the Poliambulanza clinic in Brescia, where he was hospitalized, during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Born in Brescia in 1956, Beccalossi was one of the best talents of Italian football between the 1970s and 1980s.

A classic number 10, full of flair and creativity. Having developed in Brescia, he tied his career primarily to Inter, where he enjoyed his most important seasons. He wore the Nerazzurri shirt from 1978 to 1984, making 216 appearances (scoring 30 goals). With Milan, he won the 1979-80 Scudetto and two Coppa Italia trophies (1981-82).

He then wore the shirts of Sampdoria and Monza, ending his career in 1987 with Barletta in Serie B.

Inter Milan remembered the late champion as follows: "FC Internazionale Milano and the entire Inter world join in mourning the passing of Evaristo Beccalossi and, in remembering him, embrace his family. It seems impossible. In the folds of memories and in everyday life, Evaristo was always one of us.

Ineffable, like his dribbling, unique, like his way of handling the ball."
