(Adnkronos) – The United States is considering using the "Mother of All Bombs" against Iran if President Donald Trump orders new attacks against the Islamic Republic before or after the midterm elections. According to several sources who spoke to CNN, the U.S. military has developed new attack plans against energy and nuclear facilities that include the option of using the GBU-43/B bomb, the largest non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal, weighing 9,7 tons.
According to US sources familiar with the military plans cited by CNN, the options under consideration could be considered before or after the US midterm elections, scheduled for November 3, 2026.
Its use against Iran for the first time would represent a significant escalation, despite doubts about its actual effectiveness in achieving Trump's declared strategic objectives or in reversing the balance of the war.
The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, known by the acronym MOAB and nicknamed the “Mother of All Bombs,” is the largest non-nuclear weapon in the U.S. arsenal.
It weighs approximately 9,7 tons and is designed to cause a devastating shock wave over a wide area.
According to sources cited by CNN, the new plans also include attacks against Iranian energy infrastructure and strategic targets. One possibility concerns the Pickaxe Mountain site, suspected by the United States of hosting components linked to the Iranian nuclear program.
