(Adnkronos) – "We need to increase financial resources for staff and restore the attractiveness of the National Health Service, especially for young people who need to cover staff turnover." This was stated by Antonio Magi, general secretary of Sumai Assoprof, speaking at the 58th National Congress of the union of outpatient specialists currently underway in Rome. Regarding the proposal presented to the Minister of Health to strengthen outpatient specialist care and ensure staffing for community centers, Magi emphasized that "complex pathologies are managed by specialists; it cannot be handled solely by general practice.

"We need to create multi-professional and multidisciplinary teams and make them truly operational," he stressed, highlighting the need to valorize professionals and make working in the National Health Service more attractive.

Among the solutions suggested, the Sumai general secretary proposes a "dual channel," through a "single contract" for contracted specialist care that separately regulates activities in the hospital and in the community.

The model, according to Magi, would allow us to "overcome current incompatibility constraints and make structural a collaboration that already exists, but is not uniformly organized. If we create a contract with one section that regulates local activities and one for hospital activities," he clarified, "we can move specialists as needed, something that is currently blocked by incompatibilities."

According to the union's estimate, the reform could generate savings of "approximately 1 billion euros per year" that could be reinvested in staff without having to seek new resources elsewhere.
