(Adnkronos) – A 75-year-old woman died in Milan today in a fire in her home, a second-floor apartment in a building on Via Demonte.
The flames, the cause of which is being investigated by the Lombardy Fire Department's National Investigations Unit (NIAT), engulfed the apartment in just a few minutes, leaving no escape for the elderly woman, despite the timely intervention of rescue teams from the headquarters and Sesto San Giovanni.
The smoke also forced the evacuation of residents on the upper floor, some of whom were assisted on site by 118 personnel.
In the home, where the woman lived alone, firefighters found three oxygen cylinders, one of which was affected by the fire. Clearing and clearing operations are still ongoing.
