Sleep Bruxism: A Tech Device to Monitor It While You Sleep

Milan, November 5 (askanews) – Monitoring nocturnal bruxism, the disorder that causes clenching or grinding of the teeth during sleep, through a device equipped with sensors. This technology, developed by Aesyra, collects data on jaw activity and makes it available to specialists to identify the possible causes of the problem. Marco Letizia, CEO of the Swiss startup, a spin-off of the EPFL, explained: "We have a technology that allows us to measure what happens in the mouth when we sleep, display the data to a clinician, and connect the patient with the clinician.

Specifically, we've introduced sensors inside dental bites. These sensors record bruxism and help us understand the root cause of this problem. This is the first platform that allows any type of sensor to be introduced into the oral cavity. We also have applications for sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux, and other pharmaceutical applications." The technology was presented at CES Milan, a preview of the major technology fair in Las Vegas.
