(Adnkronos) – "It's called cancer, and it was also malignant. And I believe that calling it by name is the first step in dealing with it." This is how Paola Perego, a guest on 'La volta buona' today, Friday, October 9th, spoke about kidney cancer, a malignant papillary renal cell carcinoma discovered in early 2024 during a routine checkup.
The host recalled the moment she received the diagnosis: “My first thought was, 'But why? Me? It happens to others, why does it have to happen to me too?'
A very strange feeling. You always hear about it, but when you're diagnosed, you feel like you'd be immune to it." Perego admits: "It was quite a shock."
After all the tests, the doctors reassured her that the tumor was operable: “They only removed part of my kidney.
I was lucky. I considered myself lucky." Two years have now passed since that bad memory, and every six months she undergoes oncology follow-up. "If I hadn't taken that test, just for a check-up, they wouldn't have found it," which is why she decided to speak out publicly: "Prevention should be everyone's right, free."
At her side, her husband Lucio Presta: “He was with me night and day.”
Perego admits: “I didn't think it would hurt this much. I suffered a lot.”
