Milan, September 12 (askanews) – The pro-Mediterranean video created by Ecodigital and dedicated to the “30×30” challenge, the international goal of protecting 30% of marine areas by 2030, was awarded in Venice, as part of the Venice Film Festival, at the 16th edition of the “Sorriso Diverso Venice Award.” The approval of the law establishing the Capri Marine Protected Area, after decades of waiting, is an important victory but also a new beginning.
"The journey towards a more protected Mediterranean continues through existing marine areas and those yet to be created," emphasized Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, president of the UniVerde Foundation and promoter of the EcoDigital network. The project was born from his idea and was implemented by the young innovators of the EcoDigital network, Alessandro Di Capua and Michele D'Orso.
The protagonist of the story is a dolphin, a guide on a journey through some of the most iconic places in Italy's marine heritage. From the waters of Capri to Baia and Cilento, passing through Maratea, Orosei, and the Aeolian Islands, to the underwater volcanic complexes of Palinuro and Marsili and the Gulf of Taranto, the video illustrates the challenge of protecting marine biodiversity through images, landscapes, and innovation. "Venice sends a message, above all, to young people: Italy, with its extraordinary coastal and marine heritage, can become a point of reference in the defense of biodiversity and the fight against climate change," added Pecoraro Scanio. The project was developed in collaboration with the Youth Observatory of the Federico II University of Naples and the Jonian Dolphin Conservation.
