Peschiera del Garda: Large fire at a campsite, people injured

A large fire broke out at a campsite in Peschiera del Garda. Several people were injured.

A large fire broke out at dawn today, October 4th, at the Bella Italia campsite in Peschiera del Garda , in the province of Verona. The alarm was raised around 6:00 a.m., when the flames began to engulf the facility, which was still open at the time and was hosting several vacationers. A thick column of smoke rose over the campsite, while firefighters and Suem 118 personnel responded to the scene, activating the protocol established for fire-related emergencies.

According to initial reports, the fire involved around twenty mobile homes. The provisional death toll is 24 people transported to the emergency room of Peschiera Hospital . One of them was admitted, while other hospitals in the area have been put on alert for the possible need for further transfers.

The fire in the campsite and the difficulties in the rescue effort

The firefighting operations were particularly complex due to the presence of LPG cylinders and several cars in the area affected by the fire. An explosion was also reportedly heard during the operation , a circumstance that will need to be verified by the firefighters.

Initial reports indicated one injured person was classified as red, seven were classified as yellow, and 16 were classified as green. As operations continued, the total number of people taken to the emergency room rose to 24.

Around 20 firefighters with five vehicles were deployed on site , along with six vehicles from Suem 118. The fire was brought under control, but operations to secure the area continued even after the flames were extinguished.

Twenty mobile homes affected by the flames

The fire affected a significant portion of the campsite, where guests were present at the time. The flames reportedly engulfed approximately 20 mobile homes , causing an emergency situation that required coordinated intervention by emergency responders. Medical personnel provided assistance to those involved and arranged for their transfers to the hospital based on their conditions. Currently, only one person is hospitalized , while no further information on the conditions of the other patients has been released.

The cause of the fire and the possible cause of the explosion reported during the rescue operations remain to be determined. The firefighters' investigations will also help determine the extent of the damage caused by the blaze inside the campsite.
