A journey that demonstrates Norman's ability to unlock the potential of his players, helping them compete even against seemingly superior opponents and find consistency in the most important matches. Under his guidance, Wawrinka reached third place in the world rankings and also won the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 in 2014. This work earned the Swede the ATP Coach of the Year award in 2016. Before working with the Swiss, Norman had also coached compatriot Robin Söderling, guiding him to fourth place in the world and to two consecutive Roland Garros finals, in 2009 and 2010.
Norman will have a particularly heavy legacy to shoulder. Darren Cahill has been a key figure in Sinner's development, contributing, along with Simone Vagnozzi, to the Italian's transformation into one of the dominant players on the ATP Tour. The Australian, who has previously played alongside champions such as Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, and Simona Halep, has provided the Italian number one with invaluable experience in managing decisive moments, mental preparation, and organizing workload during tournaments.
The collaboration between Sinner and Cahill began in 2022 and has produced extraordinary results. 2024 marked the definitive turning point: the South Tyrolean won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final, before also triumphing at the US Open. That same season, he became the first Italian in history to reach the top of the world rankings and finished the year as world number one, also winning the ATP Finals and other major tournaments, including the Masters 1000 in Miami, Cincinnati, and Shanghai.
The winning streak continued in 2025, with further successes at the most prestigious tournaments and confirmation of Sinner's competitiveness at the highest levels. During his partnership with Cahill, the Italian won his first five Grand Slam titles, cementing an increasingly intense rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz and establishing himself as one of the absolute benchmarks of contemporary tennis. The Australian's contribution was not limited to results. His experience helped Sinner handle the pressure of big occasions, maintain composure in the most delicate moments of matches, and address with greater maturity the growing expectations that accompany a champion of his stature. This work was shared with Vagnozzi, who continued to focus on the technical and tactical aspects of the game.
