Adnkronos (Adnkronos) – Begoña Gomez, wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, has been sent to trial. Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, El Pais reports, has formally decided to send Gomez and her assistant Cristina Alvarez to trial. After obtaining authorization from the Madrid Provincial Court last July to initiate proceedings against the prime minister's wife for influence peddling and embezzlement, the investigating judge signed the decree to begin the trial in September.
The case will now be forwarded to the High Court and the first hearing will be scheduled.
