Rescue operations are continuing unabated to free the caver trapped in a cave in the countryside of Urzulei, in Ogliastra, after part of the cavity collapsed. Firefighters and mountain rescue teams have been working for hours to clear debris and reach the man, who , according to initial reports, is still alive and alert.
The operations, made difficult by the fragility of the rock and the presence of unstable boulders, are continuing with the support of specialized teams arrived by helicopter.
Thirty rescuers and specialized teams engaged in the rescue of the speleologist
An advanced command post has been set up on site to coordinate the interventions, under the direction of the commander of the Nuoro Fire Brigade, Salvatore Corrao.
They are approximately 30 operators involved, including technicians from the National Corps of rescue Alpine and speleological teams, the SAF (Speleo Alpino Fluviali) teams, the personnel of the Tortolì detachment, the Dorgali Civil Protection and the 118 health workers. To reinforce the system, 16 USAR Medium units, specialized in search and rescue in complex environments, also intervened, transported by helicopter by the Air Force from the Decimomannu base.
Additional clearing technicians are also expected to arrive, three from central Italy and eight from Sardinia, to expedite operations. The priority remains clearing the passage and reaching it , addressing the challenges associated with the debris and the fragility of the rock structure. Work continues unabated, but the utmost caution must be exercised to prevent further collapses.
Speleologist trapped in a cave in Urzulei: rescue operations continue
The recovery operations of the speleologist trapped in a natural cavity in Gorropeddu, in the countryside of Urzulei, in the province of Nuoro, have continued unabated since Sunday afternoon. The man, a young man who was exploring the cave, remained blocked following the collapse of a part of the vault, which poured stones and debris along the passage, preventing him from exiting.
According to initial reports from Adnkronos , he is still alive and alert , but rescuers must proceed with extreme caution to reach him. The conditions in the area make the intervention particularly difficult: in addition to the significant amount of material blocking access, the rock is friable and there are unstable boulders that could cause further collapse. For this reason, technicians are working to manually remove the debris , attempting to gradually free the tunnel without compromising the safety of the man and the rescue teams.
