Taylor Mega, the spokesperson for Friuli Venezia Giulia, sparks controversy over her €87 donation.
The potential collaboration between Taylor Mega and PromoTurismoFVG to promote Friuli Venezia Giulia continues to spark controversy. At the heart of the controversy is a €87.600 proposal for the production of eight social media posts , through which the Friulian influencer is expected to contribute to promoting the region and the Io sono FVG brand .
This figure has attracted the attention of the opposition in the Regional Council, particularly the Democratic Party and the Green and Left Alliance, who have raised doubts about the appropriateness of allocating such a sum to a digital communications effort. The proposed amount would correspond to €10.950 for each piece of content , with publications scheduled, assuming an agreement, between November 2026 and June 2027.
As reported by Udine Today , the issue, however, does not concern a task already assigned: PromoTurismoFVG clarified, in a communication dated October 29, that no contract has been signed and that the proposal is still being examined by the competent offices.
Several political figures have publicly contested the operation. Democratic Party (PD) leader Diego Moretti called the potential expenditure " a waste of public money ," while the representative of the Pact for Autonomy, Massimo Moretuzzo , expressed doubts about the initiative . Regional councilor Serena Pellegrino of the Alliance of the Greens and the Left also joined the discussion , submitting a question to the regional government led by Massimiliano Fedriga. The document requests explanations on the parameters used to determine the appropriateness of the compensation, the expected results of the campaign, and any alternatives available to promote regional attractions.
Taylor Mega's response: "I was exploited against my will."
After days of discussion, Taylor Mega decided to take to social media , posting a 1:41-second video to share her version of the story. The influencer , originally from Carlino, disputed the media's narrative, pointing out that many of the people who spoke had expressed opinions without knowing all the facts. " I was exploited against my will, " and " I don't buy this narrative ," she declared at the beginning of the video. The content creator then explained why she believes her candidacy is legitimate, citing both her online popularity and her enduring connection with the region where she was born.
With 2,6 million followers, Mega claims to be the Friulian creator with the largest social media following and to be able to guarantee significant media exposure for local tourism initiatives. " Each video reaches a vast audience, guaranteeing widespread visibility and, therefore, a concrete economic return for the region ," she stated. Among the elements supporting her proposal, she cited her connection to her roots and the use of the local language in her published content: " I'm the content creator who has maintained strong roots in her homeland ."
The influencer also clarified that the proposed compensation would be lower than the rates typically charged by professionals with a similarly sized community. " I'm passionate about representing my Friuli Venezia Giulia as I always have ," he added, reiterating his desire to contribute to the region's promotion. The outcome of the matter will now be determined until the PromoTurismoFVG investigation is completed.
