(Adnkronos) –
The Azores anticyclone returns to dominate the Mediterranean, bringing a taste of September weather to Italy, with mostly sunny skies, mild temperatures, and highs generally below 30°C. After recent periods of instability in the south and along the Adriatic coast, high pressure will gradually conquer much of the peninsula, bringing a stable weekend and another week of good weather.
Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist and media manager at iLMeteo.it, confirms that nighttime temperatures will drop below 17-18°C, while highs will remain below 30°C. Favorable combinations of temperature, humidity, and wind are expected from a meteorological standpoint.
The high pressure of oceanic origin will initially affect the western sectors of the Peninsula.
The first regions to record stable conditions will be the Northwest, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, Campania, and Sardinia.
Today, Saturday, September 12th, the eastern and southern Adriatic coasts will continue to experience moderate infiltrations of unstable air from the Balkans. Local showers are possible along the central and lower Adriatic coast and in the south (except Campania and Sardinia).
Sunday, September 13: Residual instability will be limited to isolated showers between Salento, Calabria, and Sicily; elsewhere, clear or partly cloudy skies will prevail.
The southern regions will return to seasonal averages, ending the weekend with temperatures below 30°C.
As the new week begins, the Azores anticyclone will extend further eastward, ensuring clear skies from north to south.
The only potential change is expected on Wednesday, when a low-pressure system across Central Europe could reach northern Italy. This passage could bring a temporary increase in instability, with some precipitation concentrated mainly in the Northeast, before quickly moving toward the Balkans.
Despite this rapid transition, the next few days will ensure prolonged atmospheric stability, offering sunny days and mild temperatures. The final indicator of the 2026 summer thermal anomaly will remain seawater: Italian seas are still recording surface temperatures between 27 and 28°C.
