Workplace tragedy in Fiano Romano: 57-year-old worker falls from skylight

A 57-year-old worker died after falling from an eight-meter skylight in Fiano Romano; this tragedy follows two other fatal accidents reported this week in Rome.

On Thursday, October 8th, a serious workplace tragedy struck the Fiano Romano area, on the outskirts of Rome. A 57-year-old man, working on the roof of an industrial warehouse still under construction, fell through a skylight approximately eight meters above the ground. Despite immediate emergency response, resuscitation efforts were not enough to save his life.

The collapse occurred on Via del Lavoro, in a largely industrial area, where roofing work had been underway for several days. According to initial reports, the worker was at the edge of the skylight when, for reasons yet to be determined, he lost his balance and "disappeared" downward, hitting the ground approximately 8 meters away.

The authorities involved and the initial investigations

Carabinieri from the Fiano Romano station and the Spresal team from the ASL RM4 quickly arrived at the scene of the accident . The former began operations to reconstruct the events, while medical personnel took samples for possible toxicology tests.

The Rieti Public Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation, aiming to determine whether the fall was caused by a structural failure, operational negligence, or other factors.

The role of the Carabinieri and the Local Health Authority in emergency management

The Carabinieri 's intervention included securing the construction site, gathering testimonies from colleagues present, and photographing the area. Simultaneously, Spresal workers provided advanced medical care, managing the evacuation of the deceased and ensuring compliance with health regulations. The authorities emphasized the importance of timely communication between law enforcement and healthcare facilities in the event of incidents of this nature.

Two more workplace deaths in Rome in the same period

The death of the worker from Fiano Romano is the third worker to be killed in the Rome metropolitan area in just five days. That same morning, in Casal Monastero, mechanic Raffaele Ioanna, 48, died while working on a truck on Via Rocca di Cave; a bellows in the air suspension apparently exploded, causing serious, fatal injuries.

This afternoon, in the Settecamini area, warehouse worker Jacopo Piras, 25, employed at the Amazon warehouse through the temporary employment agency Gi Group, suffered a sudden health crisis during his night shift. His colleagues attempted emergency medical care, but despite the intervention of the air ambulance and the Croce Blu Sabina, the young man died.

These three events, though different in their dynamics and context, have reignited the debate on workplace safety in the capital. The relevant authorities are evaluating whether it is necessary to strengthen prevention regulations and whether employers or equipment suppliers should be held liable.
