(Adnkronos) – A sold-out concert was canceled just hours before its start due to a "serious security threat" in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. American country singer Ella Langley, 27, has decided to cancel her performance scheduled for Friday evening at the Bok Center, an arena with a capacity of 19.
The decision, described by the artist as "incredibly difficult," was made approximately two hours before the show began. In a message posted on Instagram, Langley explained that the decision was dictated by the need to protect "the safety of my fans, the venue staff, and my team." The singer did not provide further details on the nature of the threat, but apologized to the audience, assuring that information regarding ticket refunds will be communicated "as soon as possible."
According to Captain Richard Meulenberg of the Tulsa Police Department, as reported by US media, a person had called reporting possible serious acts of violence during the event, speaking of “gunshots and bombs.”
Law enforcement had conducted several checks inside the Bok Center before the show opened, but found no suspicious activity. After the call, officers re-inspected the arena, including with the help of canine units, but no credible threats were identified. "The event was ready to begin," Meulenberg said, emphasizing that the report ultimately compromised the performance and disappointed thousands of spectators.
The police reiterated that they had not found any concrete evidence to support the reported threat: “We have found no credible threats.”
The Bok Center management also released a statement explaining the cancellation, specifying that "the safety and well-being of everyone involved is our top priority." After careful consideration, it was determined that the concert could not take place. The venue also expressed regret for the disappointment of fans who had planned to attend the performance. The cancellation comes at a particularly favorable time for Langley's career. In September, her country hit "Choosin' Texas" surpassed Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You," reportedly becoming the longest-running number one single in US chart history. The song also contributed to the Alabama-born singer's success at the Academy of Country Music Awards, where she won numerous awards in May.
