(Adnkronos) – "We were a national joke, everyone laughed at us. Now Europe wants to copy us, everyone wants to copy us." Donald Trump declared this during the rally in Dayton, Ohio, where the president took to the streets in support of Republican Senator Jon Husted and Vivek Ramaswamy, the GOP candidate for governor of the state, ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

“Just go vote.

"If you do this, we will win, and we will win big," Trump said. The Ohio stop is part of a campaign tour that is expected to take the president to at least 17 states before the vote. The Senate race between Husted, appointed to the seat vacated by JD Vance after his election as vice president, and Democrat Sherrod Brown is particularly close, in one of the races that could prove decisive for control of the upper chamber.

“When I run, we win.

But for some reason, when I'm not running, 44% fewer people vote. So I'm just asking you to pretend I'm running,” he said. “If you get people to the polls, you're going to win, and we're going to win big.” During the rally, Trump also expressed his support for Ramaswamy, ironically recalling their challenge in the 2024 Republican presidential primaries: “He was a bad guy.

But you know what? He was smart. He loves this country and actually has a big heart."

Donald Trump also responded to criticisms of those who called him too "friendly" with Xi Jinping during the Chinese president's visit to Washington: "Isn't it nice to get along with the leaders of major nuclear powers?" he asked, confirming China as a "danger" to the American economy. "There's so much money to be made for Ohio. We can't just stop it, or it'll go to China," Trump said, once again defending the construction of new data centers during his campaign rally in Vandalia, Ohio. According to the president, the United States risks losing ground to China in the AI race without the large-scale infrastructure needed to provide the computing power to develop and deploy AI systems. Trump also assured that his administration is taking "historic steps to ensure that Big Tech data centers benefit local communities."

Trump then announced he would send $90 checks to over 20 million Americans enrolled in Medicare, the public health program primarily for those over 65, to help pay Part B health coverage premiums: "I'm pleased to announce that my administration will immediately begin sending nearly $100 checks to over 20 million wonderful seniors," the president wrote on Truth Social. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) said 20,8 million people will be eligible for the reimbursement, funded through the Medicare Improvement Fund. Some beneficiaries will receive the $90 via direct deposit in early October, while others will receive a Treasury check by the end of the month, both before the November 3 midterm elections.

This is the latest in a series of payments announced by Trump ahead of the vote. In recent days, the president announced that $500 checks had been sent to approximately one million people insured under the Affordable Care Act, the healthcare reform known as Obamacare. Trump also reiterated his promise of a $5 "dividend" for all adult Americans should Republicans win both the House and Senate in the November elections. This proposal has been questioned by representatives of both parties, and its financing and implementation have not yet been clarified.
