The historic boss of the Comasina gang, sentenced to four life sentences for robberies, kidnappings, and murders , lives in a retirement home in the province of Padua , specialized in caring for people with Alzheimer's and dementia.
As reported by Adnkronos , his lawyer Corrado Limentani described his condition : "He has an illness that is progressing inexorably. He is in a wheelchair and speech is now a faded memory . " His severe cognitive decline led the judges to grant him a deferred sentence in a healthcare facility.
According to the lawyer, Vallanzasca “ has advanced dementia and is therefore unable to speak or understand.
And he doesn't even recognize his family members . " It's not easy to determine how much he still understands what's happening around him: sometimes he seems to recognize those who visit him or show emotions, but he can no longer express himself. In the nursing home he is looked after by doctors and physiotherapists and, although he can no longer walk, he undergoes rehabilitation exercises.
The disease continues to advance and Vallanzasca's family is increasingly distant
There have been no sudden deteriorations in recent weeks, but the picture remains that of a progressive degenerative disease . "The deterioration is inexorable ," Limentani explained, specifying that this very condition allowed Vallanzasca to obtain a deferred sentence in the form of house arrest . The lawyer, however, does not rule out brief moments of greater lucidity: " Sometimes they say he's a little more lucid , that he even smiles. But he's still a sick person . "
A further visit from his lawyers is scheduled between the end of September and October . This phase of his life is also marked by increasing loneliness: his son has apparently chosen to change his last name and not have any contact with him, while his lawyer has no news of his brother. His ex-wife reportedly visited him some time ago. "In reality, they've all kind of disappeared . And this is his situation today ," Limentani concluded.
