Adnkronos (Adnkronos) – “Astronauts are not extraordinary people, they are ordinary people who follow a professional training path”: astronaut Walter Villadei explained this at BEX, an expo dedicated to the space economy, underlining that space is not intended for “a few super men or super women”.
Increased flight opportunities and space transportation, he observes, will lead to “more astronauts, more men, more women, more students, more boys, more girls” in the future.
Living in space, however, requires adaptability and cooperation, even under conditions of psychophysical stress and in confined environments. From nutrition to normal physiological functions, daily activities become more complex, but they also represent a technological challenge: the solutions developed for today's astronauts and those who will live in future orbiting infrastructures or on the Moon could have implications for Earth.
