Split (Croatia), October 7 (askanews) – "We are always ready to intervene again, of course, particularly with the mobile excise tax mechanism. We have perfected this mechanism, so that when fuel prices increase, the additional VAT is set aside and used to lower the price by cutting excise taxes. As of September, we have approximately €160 million available for this purpose."
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni explained this in response to a question during the press conference following the Med9 event in Split. "What we're wondering is whether it's more effective to spend these resources now, when containment measures are in place, or to hold them back as a reserve for when those containment measures end," Meloni added, emphasizing that this also depends on the price caps introduced by some oil companies.
