Trump took control of the Kennedy Center shortly after returning to office last year and pushed for a major renovation, arguing that the building had been left in a state of disrepair by previous managers. The Kennedy Center’s board of trustees, hand-picked by Trump, voted last year to officially rename the institution the “Trump-Kennedy Center,” resulting in updates to the building’s signage and online logos.
The move, later overturned by a judge, led to a sharp decline in ticket sales, artist boycotts, and an exodus of donors, the Washington Post reported. The complex's main building has been closed since Wednesday—temporarily, according to management—while a judge weighs plans for a long-term closure to allow for renovations sought by Trump.
