Pichetto: It's necessary to integrate nuclear energy into the energy mix.

Milan, September 14 (askanews) – "We absolutely must integrate our energy mix with nuclear power, which must naturally complement renewables—thermal, electric, photovoltaic, and wind—while simultaneously reducing the use of fossil fuels." Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said this in Milan at the "Energy Sovereignty and Competitiveness" event underway in the Lombardy Region. "Energy sovereignty also involves nuclear power, because today we consume 310-315 billion kilowatt hours and are capable of producing approximately 260 billion kilowatt hours.

We import around 50 billion kilowatt-hours a year from abroad, and they are essentially of nuclear origin because the main supplier in this case is France. Looking ahead, at the tools we are using, the data centers, the great challenge we face regarding energy efficiency, in the next 10-15 years we will need at least another 100-150 billion kilowatt-hours,” he added, recalling that “we already cannot reach 310-315 today, while at the same time having to move forward with decarbonization.”
