Plastic, Pichetto: We are evaluating a mechanism to support recycling.

Modena, October 20 (askanews) – "We are evaluating a possible intervention mechanism to supplement or support the current Italian recycling output, because we cannot have full recycling yards." This was stated by Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, on the sidelines of the inauguration in Modena of R3GID, the new Aliplast plant, part of the Hera Group, for the recycling of rigid plastics.

"We've partially addressed the summer emergency, including by incinerating some of this plastic, but it's not the solution," he added. The minister recalled the national plastics discussion, which was opened in the face of a "confluence of negative factors": the increase in waste separation in other European countries as well—"for plastic, we're now at 75%"—and the arrival of imported plastic "from countries that don't have our rules." "In some cases, I've activated the Guardia di Finanza and Customs for specific controls," Pichetto Fratin explained.

I asked for their intervention in a massive way because virgin plastic also arrives in recycled form, at least they say." Regarding the Modena plant, financed with around 8 million from PNRR funds, the minister underlined that "it must be a national model because it uses purified water, uses the heat from the waste-to-energy plant and gives new life to plastic."
