(Adnkronos) – "Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jacob Sinner." The blunder comes directly from Australia and is the work of the new Australian Open director, Andrew Abdo, who sensationally misnamed the Italian tennis player, calling him Jacob instead of Jannik.
Abdo, CEO of Tennis Australia, introduced himself to journalists and the media in his new role, but made a sensational gaffe that earned him a lot of criticism and quickly went viral on social media.
“Of course I know his name is Jannik Sinner,” Abdo then tried to exonerate himself in a press conference, before announcing that the world number 1, who postponed his return to the court until 2027 due to the knee injury he sustained after the Wimbledon final, intends to play the 'One Point Slam'.
“Jabob Sinner” wasn’t Abdo’s only gaffe, however.
The director of the Melbourne Grand Slam, which will traditionally open the new season, also misspelled the name of the women's number 1 ranking, Elena Rybakina, mangling it as “Robakyna”.
