Tragedy struck last night in Rome, inside the Colosseum, where a 22-year-old worker lost his life while working on the new lighting system for the Flavian Amphitheatre.
As reported by Adnkronos , the victim's name was Andrea Moretti and he specialized in rope access and activities at height. Around midnight , for reasons yet to be clarified, the young man fell from a height of approximately 10 meters while he was on a structure used for operations.
The Ares 118 staff intervened immediately and made long attempts to revive him, but all aid proved useless.
Carabinieri officers from the Rome Central Company and the Investigative Unit arrived at the scene of the accident, along with the coroner, the on-duty prosecutor, and officials from the Labor Inspectorate and the Spresal Local Health Authority. Investigations are now underway to precisely reconstruct what happened and determine the cause of the fall.

Commenting on the incident, Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli called it "a tragic event that leaves us shocked and stunned ." " The few words we can express are dedicated to Andrea, his family, and his loved ones, " he added, calling the 22-year-old's death " absurd " and emphasizing that he was a young man committed to his work.
Following the accident, the Colosseum Archaeological Park ordered the closure to the public of the second tier where the tragedy occurred today , as a gesture of mourning and respect. The area, however, has not been placed under lockdown by the judiciary, which is proceeding with the necessary investigations to determine the circumstances of the accident.
