Clara Palaoro, a 56-year-old teacher from Pergine Valsugana , died after eight months in a vegetative state , following complications following cosmetic surgery. As reported by IlTQuotidiano , she underwent surgery on January 28th at the Marostica Salus outpatient clinic in the province of Vicenza, for what, according to her partner Alessandro Avi, should have been a routine procedure.
" It was supposed to be a minor cosmetic procedure like so many others. We never imagined this tragedy would happen ," the man said. That morning, Avi had accompanied Clara to the clinic at 8:00 a.m. and waited outside the operating room. She left at 1:10 p.m., but her condition rapidly deteriorated.
" His eyes were wide open. He asked me twice what time it was. Then the anesthesiologist came in and simply told me to call him if there were any problems, and then he left ," the partner reported.
According to the investigation, reported by IlTQuotidiano , the doctor was called back around 2:00 PM after Clara felt unwell and turned pale . In the call to 118, which took place around 4:15 PM, the doctor reported that he had attempted to intubate her unsuccessfully and had then resorted to using a mask. The operator asked him several times if the patient was in Glasgow Level 3 , the most serious level on the scale used to assess coma, and received an affirmative response. Shortly thereafter, around 4:30 PM, an ambulance arrived with a resuscitator, who managed to intubate the woman. In the meantime, however, about two and a half hours had passed since the emergency began and, according to the medical records, her oxygen saturation had dropped from 97% after the intervention to 76%. Clara has not woken up since .
After a long period spent in a rehabilitation facility in Trentino, her condition further deteriorated, leading to her death at the Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento . She leaves behind two daughters, born with her ex-husband, and her partner of over two years. " No one will give me back my CLA ," Avi declared, also recalling the couple's shared plans, including the purchase of a house opposite Villa Rosa.

The Vicenza Public Prosecutor's Office intervened in the matter , having already opened a file following the complaint filed by Clara's eldest daughter. Initially, the investigation was based on very serious injuries , but after the 56-year-old's death, the case was reduced to manslaughter . The magistrates have ordered an autopsy , scheduled for the Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento, with the aim of clarifying the cause of death and reconstructing what happened in the hours following the operation.
The medical-legal investigations and other evidence gathered by the Prosecutor's Office will now clarify what happened between the end of the operation and the patient's worsening condition , as well as whether any responsibilities existed in the management of the emergency.
