Rome, October 22 (askanews) – Defense, deterrence, and technological challenges such as AI, robotics, and quantum computing were the focus of Airpress's annual celebration at Villa Blanc in Rome, titled "Arsenal for Peace." The event brought together institutions, armed forces, industry, and experts to discuss the future of European and Atlantic security. "With Airpress, we have always sought, right from the start, to broaden the culture of defense in our country.
This is a very important factor, especially in light of what is happening at our borders, abroad, and geopolitically. I therefore believe it is essential to fuel this debate and make people understand that security is now a 360° issue: it no longer concerns just weapons or supplies, but directly affects our country system and our peace of mind,” said Flavia Giacobbe, Director of Formiche and Airpress. The debate offered an opportunity to reflect on the prospects for Italian and European defense, on cooperation between countries, and on the industrial transformations that are redefining the sector. “Today's event was born from the awareness of the need to take stock of what is happening.
"This is an event that serves to reflect on what is being done and what needs to be done on land, air, and sea. There is therefore an awareness of a system that is not attack-based, but rather a defense system that must find its convergence among all these realities," added Giorgio Mulè, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies. "In reality, one of the aspects of hybrid warfare is that we don't perceive it every day, but we only see its effects in hindsight.
The commitment is therefore to understand and analyze the phenomenon, to prevent and predict its many manifestations. Technically, we are acting 'below the threshold,' that is, below the threshold of conventional conflict. Hybrid warfare, in fact, is not that of uniformed armies: it is that of cyber attacks, cognitive warfare, the manipulation of public opinion, threats to critical underwater infrastructure, violations of airspace, the use of drones, and I could go on,” concluded Isabella Rauti, Undersecretary of State for Defense. During the event, which was attended, among others, by COPASIR President Lorenzo Guerini and Italy's Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Council Alessandro Azzoni, the need to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure and the management of space as a new strategic domain emerged forcefully, as priority challenges for the civil-military security and resilience of Italy and the Atlantic Alliance.
