Deep Purple cancels its concerts. The historic British hard rock band has announced the cancellation of its concerts scheduled for Saturday, October 31st, in Leipzig, and Sunday, November 1st, in Hamburg, Germany, due to a medical emergency involving frontman Ian Gillan, 81. The group announced the news via its social media channels, specifying that the singer is hospitalized.

No further details were provided on the cause of his hospitalization or on his current health conditions.

The band, active for nearly sixty years and renowned worldwide for songs such as "Smoke on the Water," "Child in Time," and "Highway Star," is currently on the "Splat!" tour. Gillan, who joined the group in its early years, is one of its most iconic voices, despite some interruptions during his tenure.

The dates in Leipzig and Hamburg would have opened the German tour.

At this time, the other dates scheduled for next week in Dortmund, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Nuremberg have not been canceled. In a statement posted on social media, the band apologized for the short notice, stating that they understand and share the disappointment of their fans. The group also announced that their staff is working to find new dates for the two canceled concerts.

Tickets already purchased will remain valid for rescheduling. However, no information has yet been released on when Ian Gillan might return to the stage.
