Erion Care, Ecomondo Award for Municipalities to Eliminate Landfill Waste

Rimini, November 5 (askanews) – "Today we are awarding a national recognition to the municipalities and local entities that have committed to combating cigarette butt litter." Letizia Nepi, general director of Erion Care, said this at Ecomondo, the Rimini Fair. The awarded initiatives, she explained, range from organizing collection competitions with citizens to raising awareness about the phenomenon, and even communicating through infographics on social media.

We have collected all these practices to enhance and reward some of them, with the aim of spreading the culture of combating littering, or the abandonment of small waste. Erion Care "is the first and currently only consortium based on extended producer responsibility for tobacco products, particularly those with filters," Nepi recalled.

"The filter contains cellulose acetate, a substance that can be harmful to the environment, which is why the legislation requires manufacturers to support the management of these products." At Ecomondo, the consortium aims to "raise awareness and consciousness about the problem of cigarette butt litter" with communication initiatives, local collections, and the dissemination of best practices.
