The funeral of Lorena Isceri, the 45-year-old woman killed recently by her ex-partner on the A1 motorway in Barberino del Mugello, near Florence, will be held today, Wednesday, September 9th. The funeral will take place this afternoon in Squinzano, in the province of Lecce, her hometown, in the Church of Maria Regina. The body is expected to arrive in the second half of the morning.
Mayor Mario Pede announced that a day of mourning will be declared throughout the city.
The torchlight procession through the city streets in solidarity with the Isceri family will be held on Friday evening, "to gather around her family and friends in this moment of deep grief." The procession is being promoted by the City of Squinzano in collaboration with the 'Committee for Lorena'.
Participants are scheduled to meet at 8:00 PM on Via De Petro. From there, at 8:30 PM, the procession will set off, passing through Via Kennedy, Via Campi, Via Brindisi, Via Papa Giovanni Paolo II, and Piazza Vittoria near the Panchina Rossa (Red Bench) in the municipal park. "It will be a moment of silence, remembrance, and solidarity, to remember Lorena and reaffirm, together, the value of respect and non-violence," the City Council's official Facebook page states.
The City of Squinzano invites "the entire community to participate."
Lorena Isceri was still alive when she was thrown from the highway overpass by Federico Vella, according to the autopsy performed on the 45-year-old's body on Tuesday. After kidnapping her, her ex locked her in the trunk of the car he used to drive to the overpass where the femicide, committed on September 4th, took place. "We imagined it," Cosimo Miccoli, the lawyer representing the woman's family, told Adnkronos, commenting on the initial findings of the autopsy ordered by Public Prosecutor Antonio Natale, as part of the Florence Prosecutor's Office's investigation into kidnapping with intent to commit murder and femicide aggravated by premeditation.
Meanwhile, investigators are reconstructing the hours leading up to the crime. Particular attention is being paid to Vella's presence near the victim's home in Florence in the days leading up to it. According to what has emerged so far, the man was noticed by some neighbors wandering around the area, despite living in another part of the city. This evidence, along with other evidence acquired by investigators, is being evaluated in light of the possibility of premeditation.
Lorena was reportedly caught in the parking lot of the building, immobilized, and then transported in the trunk of Vella's car. He then reached the highway and headed toward Barberino di Mugello. Forensic examinations and other investigative checks will clarify the precise sequence of events and the time of her death.
Investigators are also combing through communications between Vella and Lorena after their relationship ended, including those sent by the man to the 45-year-old's family. The goal is to reconstruct the relationship between the two in the weeks preceding the crime and determine whether the messages provide insights into her ex-partner's behavior and the possible progression of the stalking. According to the family, Lorena had decided to cut off contact after a series of increasingly insistent and worrying behaviors.
