Garlasco case, pending completion of investigation into Andrea Sempio

(Adnkronos) – The preliminary investigation into the new investigation into the Garlasco crime concludes today. The Pavia Prosecutor's Office is expected to file the documents and serve Andrea Sempio with a new notice of conclusion of the investigation, the so-called 415 bis. 

This is a long-awaited formal step, as it will allow the parties to gain detailed knowledge of the material collected by the Prosecutor's Office in recent months.

After notification of Article 415 bis, Sempio's defense will be able to examine the documents, submit briefs, produce documentation, and request any further investigations. The same rights apply to other parties involved in the proceedings. 

Among the last to be interviewed by investigators was Luciano Garofano, former commander of the Parma RIS, who was questioned on September 25 for over an hour and a half.

The hearing would also have covered some aspects of the 2007 scientific investigations, including the findings relating to Alberto Stasi's bicycle and the genetic analyses. 

In recent days, prosecutors have also interviewed several military personnel who participated in the 2017 investigation. The final psychiatric report ordered as part of the investigation is also expected. 

However, the closure of the investigation does not automatically mean a request for indictment.

The Prosecutor's Office will first examine any observations and evidence presented by the defense. Only then will the Pavia magistrates decide whether to request a trial for Sempio, charged with aggravated voluntary manslaughter. 

Any such request would open a new judicial chapter in the Chiara Poggi murder case and could also have consequences for the proceedings that led to Alberto Stasi's final conviction. 

For Stasi, the reopening of the Sempio case could be intertwined with the initiatives already proposed regarding the review. However, these developments will depend on the decisions of the Prosecutor's Office and, subsequently, any measures taken by the judicial authorities.
